🧮 Abacus as a Subject

At Soikholal Ideal High School, Abacus is introduced as a subject from Class I to Class VI, with plans to extend it up to Class VIII. The Abacus program is designed to strengthen students’ foundational understanding of numbers, boost mental arithmetic, and enhance concentration through visual and tactile learning methods.

By incorporating Abacus into our curriculum, we aim to make mathematics engaging, accessible, and less intimidating. Using beads and finger movements, students learn to visualize numbers and solve problems quickly without relying on calculators—building confidence and a love for numbers.

âś… Why Abacus is Implemented in Our School:

  1. Builds a Strong Foundation in Mathematics

    • Helps students understand place value, number sense, and operations through hands-on methods.

  2. Develops Mental Calculation Skills

    • Trains the brain to calculate faster and more accurately using visual memory.

  3. Improves Concentration & Focus

    • Regular practice enhances attention span and active engagement with tasks.

  4. Strengthens Brain Development

    • Stimulates both the left (logical) and right (creative) hemispheres of the brain.

  5. Boosts Confidence in Math Learning

    • Reduces fear of numbers by turning problem-solving into a fun, interactive activity.

  6. Enhances Listening & Observation Skills

    • Abacus training requires following verbal instructions carefully and responding quickly.

🎯 Expected Outcomes in Students:

  • Ability to perform quick and accurate mental arithmetic without written steps

  • Increased confidence and enjoyment in learning math

  • Improved speed, accuracy, and retention of numerical data

  • Enhanced concentration, memory power, and multitasking ability

  • Positive attitude toward problem-solving and logical thinking

  • Preparedness for competitive exams and advanced math in higher classes

By implementing Abacus as a subject, we are investing in our students’ mental agility, mathematical confidence, and cognitive development. It is not just a tool for calculation—it is a life skill that trains the mind to think fast, focus better, and stay sharp.
